What is your job?
Director of Community Development.
What are your responsibilities?
I’m responsible for finding ways for Redeemer to serve and seek the welfare of our neighborhood and city. This largely includes building and sustaining key relationships in our city, raising the awareness of needs in our community, and developing sustainable strategies to empower our church to help care for those needs and serve Kansas City so that Jesus can be glorified and made known.
I married my best friend Mark in June of 2014.
I also have 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and a great dad. Oh, and my siblings all begin with the letter “R.” Yes, I will name them for you, just ask.
Where are you from?
A native of Kansas City.
Education & Experience?
I graduated from Missouri Western State University in May of 2001 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. That fall, I moved to Memphis, TN, where I worked in college ministry for first couple of years. During that time, I was also working with refugees, mostly from East Africa. I eventually became the co-founder of the “Refugee Empowerment Program”, where we helped refugees resettle to the United States and assisted with their education and long term sustainability.
I moved back to KC in the summer of 2008 and continued working in education, then at Redeemer in 2009.
How long have you been at Redeemer?
Places to Visit?
Haiti, and somewhere with a mountain view.
What hobbies/interests outside of work?
Time with my family is a joy and a must. I love riding my bike around this city and sitting on porches are becoming a favorite of mine. I have also come to enjoy photography and becoming handy around the house. Also, watching skateboarding in this city is my secret past time.
