Redeemer Fellowship takes the issue of church membership seriously. Members function as the primary missionaries for the church to the culture. Members interact with the culture of Kansas City every day, positioned in it to live out the Gospel in word and deed. We are called corporately to love our God and our neighbors, and membership keeps us accountable as we do that.
Membership is not a status symbol or social club. Members who enter into a covenant with their local church are called to a higher degree of responsibility. Conversely, the elders covenant to give members priority in assistance with counsel, service, and aid through praying, teaching and guiding as necessary.
To transition from a regular attender to an official member of Redeemer, we ask that you attend the Gospel Class, in which we will look at an overview of Christian essentials, with time for questions and discussion. This is an 8-week course that includes an overview of our church and our core values, with a doctrinal exploration of: the Scriptures, God, Creation, Sin, Salvation, the Missional Church, Stewardship and Spiritual Gifts (and what these things mean for our lives individually and corporately). The goal of this class is to equip you to live as an informed missionary in the neighborhoods where you live. Everyone considering Redeemer for their home should attend this class; it will ensure that you know what you are getting into, and it is required for church membership. Whether you became a Christian yesterday or have a Masters in Divinity, there are no exceptions.
